If you follow me on Instagram or this Blog, you would know that I started sewing again after many. many years. This all started because I really wanted some colorful pants, that I could not find in the stores and decided to make a few pairs. So far, I have attempted three pairs of pants and none made the cut. I have never had any problems getting ready to wear pants to fit my body, and could not believe that the pants I made, were ill fitting and ended up in the trash. Your Girl was losing confidence quick! So, I decided to concentrate on making tops & dresses. The dress I'm wearing here is my first dress this year, and it fits my style. I did have to make a few adjustments to the bodice because I should have sized down on the pattern. But, the dress is wearable and I really like it.
One of the main reasons I stopped sewing back in the 90's, was that fabrics got to be very expensive. And, ready to wear clothing was more affordable on a single Mom's budget. Now, I found out from You Tube university that I could get fabric so much cheaper online, and got acquainted with several stores including Fabricmart. Also, sewing patterns are not cheap anymore, the regular cost of a pattern is about $20. But, there are so many pattern sales frequently in my neck of the woods and I never pay more than $1.99 for a pattern. Just this week, Hobby Lobby had Simplicity patterns on sale for 99 cents. The fabric used is a rayon blend @ $3.00 per yd., and I used 2.5 yds. The final cost of the dress is $8.40 including thread. How is that for a Budgetnista?
I have already cut out another version of this dress and will get cracking on it soon.
Hope you had a GREAT Mother's Day Weekend!
