The first Friday of February has been designated by the awareness campaign, Heart Truth, as National Wear Red Day in the United States. On this day, men and women are encouraged to wear red as a symbol of their support of women’s heart health. Despite all the attention we pay to cancer rates, heart disease is still the #1 killer of women. The American Heart Association hopes by asking women (and men) to wear such a noticeable and, some would say, powerful color on this day, they can bring attention to a disease which claims the lives of almost 500,000 women each year.
It’s no longer just about wearing red; it’s no longer just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all women making a commitment, to stand together with Go Red – taking charge of their own heart health, as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without. My Sista Eugenia contacted me to join some Ladies showing their support to wear red on the blog. I loved the idea, went to shop my closet and only found a red jacket. So, the search was on. Luckily I found a dress on my slim budget at Macy’s Last Act.
